Salutations, traveler of The Internets! Welcome to William's Bloody Hell, so named after our founder, Sir Bloody William.
He is seen in the likeness above in a rare, 19th century woodcut. This
image was rumoured to have been
commissioned after a bout of unpleasantness
in the White Chapel district of London. Do enjoy your stay and peruse our many, varied offerings, much of which cannot be found elsewhere!
:: Scooter Girl by Chynna Clugston-Major ::
by William the Bloody
Ashton Archer is suave, charming, handsome, talented, smart and cool. Every babe in high school wants to boink him and every guy envies him. Yessir, life was great. He had several sweet-ass vintage scooters fixed up and was the king of the mod scene. That is, of course, until he met Margaret Sheldon. Margaret is the hottest chick with a Lambretta in town, so naturally, Ash needs to add her to his list of conquests. However, it seems Margaret has an odd effect on Ash. Catching the slightest glimpse of her causes him to take painful pratfalls, lose sporting events, and gasp! worst of all, lose his general cool. Soon his life has fallen completely apart, the girls hate him for playing them for fools, and the guys for losing their games. He is forced to start his life anew in a new town, which he does with shining success. Not many years later, Margaret shows up on the same scene, and his life's collapse seems eminent once again, as just being in the same room with the lovely Margaret has the same embarrassing effect. What follows is everything Ash can think of to prevent his life from slooshing down the toilet, and if that happens to include bedding Margaret in the process, so much the better.
The Good: Chynna rocks my socks. Her art is gorgeous, and this mini series is no exception. She really gets to cut loose with her love affair of mod fashion with this book and, man, does she ever excel. The story of a glorified womanizer getting his just desserts is quite amusing and takes some very interesting twists and turns. The bits with Ash's grandpa are great, especially his second appearance. Woo that was good.
The Bad: With the description of the Archer lineage, I felt that Chynna was getting a wee too big for her britches there. Just a little pretentious sounding, sweetie. Sorry. As happens to Chynna sometimes, the ending felt quite rushed. I was pleased with the conclusion, just not the way it happened.
If you are at all familiar with Chynna Clugston-Major's work then this mini series is a must for you. The same sense of humor and style is all there. If you're not, you may still get a kick out of it. I know I did.
