by William the Bloody

Liz Lemon is the head writer for "The Girlie Show," an evening skit comedy show starring her long-time friend, Jenna, for NBC at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City. The show does well with women and gay men, but new head of NBC programming, Jack Donaghy, has big plans to expand the show's appeal. Jack wants to bring in outrageous comedian Tracy Jordan, but the rest of the staff is freaked out, mainly Jenna about losing her lime light. However, as the show gets stuck for time, Liz acts fast and tosses Tracy out on stage to pad the show. Tracy is a huge hit and the whole show is rebranded "TGS," with Tracy as the big star and Jenna shifted to supporting cast, but Tracy's crazy antics might take some getting used to.

The Good: I need to start by saying that the writing for this show is absolutely top notch. It is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, with at least one big laugh per show, no lie. The characters are all weird and quirky, with their own hang ups and personalities which collide into hilarity. The casting is pretty impeccable. Alec Baldwin, Jack McBrayer, Jane Krakowski, and everyone are absolutely perfect in their respective parts.  Everything about this show just meshes so wonderfully in a way that's truly rare.

The Bad: Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan can get grating. I mean, that man cannot act to save his life, but the dialogue written for him is still ingenious.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show. It's fun, light, and it makes me really laugh. I look forward to season 2.

A+
