My Turn.
Hello there, V! This here piccie was actually a request by
Paperclippe
for some V luvin'. My instructions were pretty much "draw V" with no specifics
on the matter, really. What I came up with was partially inspired by the V
statue and also the climactic scene in the film where V is fatally wounded,
which is where the quote on the image and the title of this thing comes from. V
and Creedy with his Fingermen are having their showdown and Creedy says, "Whatchya
gonna do, huh? We've swept this place. You've got nothing. Nothing but your
bloody knives and your fancy karate gimmicks. We have guns." To which V retorts,
"No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I'll
no longer be standing, because if I am you'll all be dead before you've
reloaded." After all of the Fingermen have spent their ammo, V is naturally
still standing and he whips out his daggers and says, "My turn." But like I
said, this is merely inspired by that. It's always difficult for me to
come up with what the merry hell my figures ought to be doing in my
illustrations. I knew I wanted a full head-to-toe figure and something involving
the daggers would be cool. The anatomy was looking funny where the arms
connected to the torso, so I decided to put cape there to cover it up.
Unfortunately, I suck ass at drawing fabric folds. I referenced the work of
Kelley Jones on Batman for some ideas, and figured out something which at least
sort of makes sense. A little. As always, this is my own version of V. I like to
make the hat with points like that because I actually own a hat like that and it
makes for good reference. I went with double breasted buttons just because I
like how it looks. The comic book has one set of buttons, and the movie version
has none. I felt the chest area needed a little something. I'm pleased with some
of the little detail work I was able to slip in, particularly on the hat. The
shading on the mask looks pretty good, too. Some of the fabric fold in the shirt
aren't half bad either. I KNOW it's the boring and over-used brick wall
backdrop, but I thought it worked well for this V entering a showdown image. I
put up these two version in case you don't like crap with text all over it.
