Asylum. It's the
Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker! Oh, and that's little miss Delirium on his
left. I got this idea in my head a few weeks back to pair the Joker and Delirium
(they're a fan art match in heaven, aren't they?), but didn't think I'd actually
have the time to put real effort into and make it look decent. The
straightjacket and Delirium's hair were the most difficult parts to this. Fabric
folds are just plain not my friend at all and I had no idea how to style that
ever changing hairdo. I looked up some straightjacket photos on that internet
thingie for photo reference and kinda-sorta-not really based Delirium on Terry
Moore's pin up of her in the Endless Gallery comic I have. I thought the
little pony tails and stray whips suited her, but colouring it was still a
problem. In the end, I utilized a rainbow gradient and then used the smear tool
a heck of a lot. I hope it wound up looking like hair to you people out there.
And how about that Joker, eh? I actually hadn't drawn him in nearly ten years,
and that drawing was a swipe from "No Man's Land" (that's a Batman story arc,
for you non comic book readers). So, this is actually my first original concept
pic of Mr. Joker Pants. All in all, I like it. I think the way I happen to draw
smiles works for him, although he does maybe look too young? Last minute
background was added in Corel Photo Paint 11, where I put in the spotty fill and
the coloured, floating things. I always like how in the comics Delirium often
"leaks" weird things like fish or frogs around her and thought that would add a
dash of colour.
