The One That I Want (Coloured). Hey, here's the finished version of the pencil sketch, and the official contest entry for The Monthly Gargoyles Art Contest, March 2009 1950s theme. The big deal for me with this pic is that I did not ink it and coloured almost entirely using layers! I know, Hell has frozen over. Well, when I was penciling this, I was amazed at how quickly and well it all came together, and when I was done drawing, I realized that there was NO WAY I'd be able to recapture Elisa's hairdo with inks. It was going to have to layers if I wanted to colour it at all, and I did. My Elisa is a questionable likeness in black and white; she really needed the skin tones to come to her own. I still kept the layers pretty simple and didn't try anything too fancy. There was a layer for Elisa and Goliath's skin tones, a layer for Elisa's hair, a layer for Goliath's hair, a layer for their black clothes, and a layer for their eyes and Elisa's lips. That's five layers plus the one with the pencils. Hey, I've heard of people who use over a hundred layers in a single image, so yeah, I'm keepin' it simple for now. After the layers and the pencils were "flattened" together, then I added the shines (eyes, earrings, lipstick) and the "background." Overall, I think it came out pretty wicked. Even if I don't win the contest, I might enter again because it's fun.
